The Importance of Blue Light Compliance

At Orascoptic, product safety is our number one concern. We utilize an independent multi-national product testing and certification company to measure the blue light hazard of our headlights in a typical use case scenario; a healthcare professional viewing an illuminated operating site at an 18" working distance.

All measurements are performed in accordance with the international standard IEC 62471:2006 "Photobiological safety of lamps and lamp systems". This international standard specifies exposure limits taken from various ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection) guidelines.

The exposure limits represent conditions under which it is believed that nearly all individuals in the general population may be repeatedly exposed without adverse health effects. Per IEC 62471:2006, this blue light exposure limit is 100 W/(m2sr).

Blue light measured from the proper use of the Orascoptic Endeavour™ II headlight was 2.10 W/(m2sr). This is approximately 47 times less than the exposure limits set by the ICNIRP and adopted by 62471:2006.
