In no other occupation is the design of the seating as critical to the well-being of the user than that utilized in dentistry. The dental clinician, while performing intricate procedures where visibility is limited, naturally compromises body posture. In general, most dental professionals must lean forward to gain visible access, drop their heads and shoulders to obtain best visual distance, project their arms away from their bodies and remain in static positions for long periods of time.

• Leaning forward – rotates the pelvis backward reversing the normal forward bend in the lower spine.
• This creates excessive pressure on the spinal discs and the body becomes unstable.
• Uneven body weight distribution produces pressure under the thighs, impairing leg circulation.
• Arms held away from the body – places excessive stress on the musculature of the upper armsand shoulders
